Sun, swimming & Tattoo Care
Sun, Swimming & Tattoo Care
A great tattoo doesn’t only happen in the chair - it continues at home. Proper aftercare is essential for how your tattoo heals, looks, and lasts over time.
Most smaller tattoos heal within 2-3 weeks, and during this period it’s important to give your skin the best conditions to heal properly and without complications.
🌞 Avoid excessive sun & sunbathing during the healing period:
Limit direct sunlight on your new tattoo for at least 2-3 weeks, which is the healing time for most tattoos. The skin is extra sensitive, and UV rays can:
Disrupt the healing process
Increase the risk of irritation
Once your tattoo is fully healed, we always recommend using high SPF sunscreen to keep the tattoo sharp and vibrant.
🌊 Water & Swinning: During the healing period, avoid:
Seawater
Swimming pools
Spa and sauna
Why? Chlorinated water and seawater contain bacteria, salt, and chemicals that can:
Irritate the skin and delay healing
Increase the risk of infection
Wait at least 2-3 weeks, or until the tattoo is fully healed. Short showers are completely fine.
🧴Sunscreen & skincare:
Do not use sunscreen while the tattoo is healing. The skin needs time and calm conditions to recover, and products may irritate the area and affect the final result.
Once the skin is healed:
Use sunscreen (SPF 30-50)
Keep the skin moisturised to enhance colors and details.
